Remember the Titans, one of the greatest biographical films about sports ever made. You won’t find another sports film with as strong a character, powerful music and emotional drama like this. It’s an oldie, but it’s a great movie. It was released in 2000. The movie is based on T.C. Williams High School, Alexandria, Virginia. You can go back all the way to 1971. The movie opens with the merging of two schools into T.C. Williams High is an educational institution. The Virginia schools had been segregated for many generations. But these coaches and players changed everything. Denzel Washingtom played Harmon Boone as coach. As the head coach, Harmon Boone was replaced by Denzel Washington. This didn’t work out too well. Will Patton took over the title-holding position of Yoast as head coach. Boone had been laid off from his previous job and was reluctant to accept the role. Boone finally accepted the position as the black community saw him in a way that represented pride and respect. Boone offered him the position of assistant coach because he didn’t want Yoast to go. This movie shows you the story of a team that is racially diverse. It shows the differences between the white and black players, as well as how they interact with each others. Also, it shows how two fateful coaches work together to bring about victory. This was particularly moving as it took place in a time where this was not common practice. It set an example for others. Many social issues are addressed in the film, including racism, discrimination, desegregation and prejudice, as well as aggression. The film asks the characters to consider what is right or wrong. Remember the Titans can be compared with the movie 42. Like Remember the Titans the movie deals with discrimination, racism and prejudice. Only 42 is about Jackie Robinson. It’s about the discrimination he faces by his team and fans. Although 42 is an excellent movie, Jackie sees it through her eyes. The movie would have been much more entertaining if it had spent more time with the other characters. Remember the Titans is better than 42 in this area. You get to see more than the football game. You can also see the lives of the coaches and some of their players. This allows you to connect with them more emotionally. This movie can be used to teach or learn. The movie captured the essence of the 1970’s. It is amazing to see how the players overcome their differences because of their love for the game. After finally understanding each other, Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell, played respectively by Wood Harris, form an amazing friendship. They were both ignorant and hateful at first. They could not stand being around each other. They realized they couldn’t get along until football became their problem. Both loved winning and the game. These boys considered football a way to live in Virginia. It was wonderful to watch their friendship blossom. Next, let’s talk about the coaches. Coach Yoast as well as Coach Boone recognized the importance of a team that is united. They also needed to get to know each other. Soon they realized that trust is more important than differences. It gave hope to the rest of their team to see how they worked together. This movie can be used to teach, as I said before. The movie taught you that differences can be put aside in the service of a greater cause. You can do it for a cause bigger than yourself, or just for fun. Understanding the origins of other people is crucial. It is possible to learn new things that you didn’t know before. It is evident in the relationship between coach and player. They put aside differences and won their championship game. Remember the Titans, the greatest sports movie ever made.
