The Present of Music
Moulin Rogue, BazLuhrmann’s Best Picture Nominee! Christian – an afflicted writer, mourning his beloved’s death – is at the beginning of this film. He recounts his arrival in Paris to find love and bohemian values. In his flat, he encounters Toulouse-Lautrec with his acting troupe. Christian is asked to write the play for “Spectacular Spectacular”, a play that they have just written. They plan to go to Moulin Rouge and ask owner Harold Zidler for funding. Christian, Toulouse, crew and other members arrive just in time for the main dancer Satine to perform. Toulouse wants Zidler, the director of Zidler’s company, to be impressed by Christian because Satine is performing. Toulouse arranges a meeting to have Christian impress Satine. Satine meets a prince to discuss changing the Moulin Rouge’s status from a club for cancan to a theatre. Satine, who knows about this duke’s existence, mistakes Christian as the duke. She interprets all his poetry-related references as sex. She is almost unconscious, but continues the meeting. Christian reads Satine to her in private. Satine still thinks that the meeting is sexual. Christian sings Elton John’s song “Your Song” and Satine suddenly realizes he loves her. Satine quickly turns the duke away as he hides. Christian appears, but the actual duke is returning quickly. Toulouse and Zidler swoop into the scene and convince him that they’re talking about the play.
Christian returns home and Satine is still not convinced. Christian is infatuated and visits Satine’s rooftop. He wins her over, as the two agree to have a secret affair. Satine is also the object of the duke’s lust, and he makes Satine a condition in his contract for funding the Moulin Rouge. Christian and the Duke have different obligations while the two are secretly in love. Satine, who has been coughing up a lot of blood, also cannot attend. Zidler lies to make the duke feel better, and he discovers that Satine has a serious illness. Christian tells her that she will be jealous if she sleeps with the Duke. Christian puts in a song as a final note to remind the couple of their love. When the duke watches the play’s ending, he realizes how the play is a parallel to Satine’s own life. Satine must choose the character that resembles the duke in order for the love story to be complete. Christian shouts, “It can’t be! She doesn’t love the Duke!” Satine has a private meeting with the Duke, while Christian watches in frustration. Satine is unable to have sex. The duke collapses in rage. Satine and Christian plan to escape together. Zidler comes up to Satine when she’s packing. Zidler informs Satine that she’s dying. She then tells Christian she chose the duke in order to keep him from hearing the bad news. Christian is moved to tears as she performs the play. Toulouse saves Christian from the bodyguard of the duke. Toulouse repeats the words from the film’s beginning – “The most important thing is to love and be loved back”. Satine tells Christian that she still loves and the two end their play with a song. Christian is devastated by her death from illness. After a long wait, Christian is finally able to tell their story.
Moulin Rouge’s cast is amazing! The cast of Moulin Rouge! Ewan McGorror and Nicole Kidman did a great job in the roles of Christian & Satine. Ewan mcGregor holding Satine to death in his arms made Christian’s agony palpable. Kidman’s portrayal of Satine was convincing, even if it seemed a bit over-the-top at first. By the end, the audience felt a real connection with Satine. The supporting actors were also decent. John Leguizamo played Toulouse and Jim Broadbent played Zidler. Both characters brought together the second group by showing their enthusiasm and charisma.
Moulin Rouge! It was hard to dislike Moulin Rouge! Ewan McGregor’s performance as Christian was outstanding. Ewan McCorrory’s portrayal of Christian singing “Your Song” is enchanting. Kidman’s mediocre performance did not have any effect on my attachment to Kidman’s character. The choreography, costumes, and set pieces were all of an impressive scale, capturing the spirit of song and dance of that time period. It was only the supporting cast that you could call decent. The plot and most of the actors were not particularly memorable. Moulin Rouge! is still a great film! This film is a winner in every way.
Moulin Rouge! Luhrmann repeats “Love defeats all” over and over in the film. “Love and being loved is the greatest thing anyone can ever experience”. Satine repeatedly chooses Christian, instead of the duke. This is because she prefers her love symbol to her duty symbol. The love that triumphs over death is seen at the very end. Satine wants Christian to immortalize the story of their love through song and writing. The concept is not original, but the film was done well. is, I don’t mind.
Moulin Rouge! This is not for everybody. The Rouge is a musical that’s easy to recommend to fans, but not so much to casual viewers. It is hard to recommend the Rouge for a casual viewer. While fans of modern music will enjoy it, it’s not for everyone. This film is rated PG-13 because it contains some suggestive content, but not anything too violent, sexual, or mature. This film is a musical love story that tells a beautiful love story. It was nominated for Best Picture because of its music and songs. McGregor & Kidman work together to create a musical film that will appeal to movie and music lovers alike.
