Are you planning on taking the SAT? Although you might know there are passages to be read and math calculations, the SAT will give you an exact overview of what subjects it covers.

This guide will help you understand the subject matter required to succeed on each section. We will conclude with some tips that you can use to study for the SAT.

SAT Overview: Sections & Timing

Let's begin by examining the SAT's main subjects. First, let's look at the SAT's three major sections. These are Reading, Writing, Language, and Mathematics. There was also an optional essay that was dropped in June 2021.

This order will be followed by the SAT sections: Reading first, Math second. You can't use a calculator in the Math section (25 minutes and 20 Questions), but you can use it in the second (55 minutes, 38 Questions).

Below, I'll give you an explanation of what each section covers.

What Subjects are included in the SAT reading?

All questions of SAT Reading rely upon passages. Each passage in the SAT Reading section has 52 multiple-choice question. This means that there will be approximately 10-12 questions per passage. Some passages can be paired with others, while some passages have graphs and tables accompanying them.

Each topic will include at least one excerpt.

  • U.S. literature or international literature
  • U.S. founding documentation or a document that is inspired by it
  • Social science (such a psychology, economics, sociology, and so on)
  • Science (Earth science. Biology. Chemistry. Physics.

SAT Reading tests these skills:

  • Command of evidence: Finding evidence in a passage supporting a particular question.
  • Words in Context: Make use of context clues to help you understand the meaning of words.
  • Analyse in History/Social Science & Science: Interpret data and examine hypotheses to determine implications

This Section covers the following subjects

SAT Reading will have different topics such as literature and science. Therefore, you don',t need any prior knowledge. It is possible to answer all questions based only on information from the passage. beforehand.

The SAT Reading section tests the ability of students to critically read and interpret passages. You will need the same skills to pass this section as you do in English classes. You'll need to understand the purpose of the writer and how it was written for both the class and exam.

What Subjects are included in the SAT Writing & Language section?

All questions on the SAT Writing and Language section are based upon passages, just like the Reading section. Each passage will contain four questions and total 44 questions.

Each chapter will focus on one of the following: Careers/Social Studies/Humanities, Science, and Technology.

  • Careers passages may discuss issues or trends in the major fields of medicine, technology, and business.
  • Passages in social studies might be focused on topics such as history, psychology, sociology, and political science.
  • The Humanities section could include a writer or examine trends in literature or music.
  • Science passages will address Earth science and biology as well as chemistry and physics.

The passages may be argument-based or explanatory. Each passage will have at least one diagram. Each passage will have errors in punctuation. These questions will require you to fix the errors and identify them.

CSST Writing covers four key skill areas: command of evidence, Words in Context and Expression of Ideas.

Around 24 questions will be focused on Command of Evidence and Words in Context. These questions are about organization, development, and effective use of language. The Standard English Conventions will be the focus of approximately 20 questions. These questions focus on sentence structure and usage as well punctuation.

This Section covers the following subjects

SAT Writing, Language and Language questions ask about three major subjects. As you write and edit other people's work, these subjects will likely have been covered in English and Writing classes.

Grammar

These questions will evaluate your ability and knowledge to correctly identify grammar errors. The Writing and Language section includes approximately 45% of grammar questions.

Fashion

Style questions are designed to test your ability in analyzing sentence construction, word choice and paragraph structure. These questions comprise about 7%.

Reading Comprehension

Reading comprehension questions in this section require you to be able understand the meaning of sentences or words in a passage. Reading comprehension questions account for approximately 48%.

What subjects are on the SAT Math Math?

SAT Math consists two sections. The first section, which is without a calculator, takes 25 minutes. It contains 15 multiple-choice questions as well as 5 grid-in question. The second section takes 55 minutes, where a calculator can be used. It contains 30 multiple-choice question and 8 grids-ins.

Three main subject areas are.

  • Heart of Algebra
  • Advanced Math Passport
  • Data Analysis and Problem Solving

You can also choose to include additional topics in the SAT Math section. These questions cover basic trigonometry, geometry, and complex number.

This Section covers the following subjects

SAT Math covers 24 major topics in four main sections. The College Board's Heart of Algebra topic area includes the following sections: basic algebra and advanced math.

Basic Algebra

  • Straight-line equations
  • Equations with a single variable
  • System of linear equations
  • Absolute Value

Advanced Algebra

  • Manipulating Polynomials
  • Equations involving a squared term
  • Splitting up polynomials
  • Exponential function
  • A way of writing a mathematical expression using symbols instead of words
  • Finding answers to exponential equations
  • Figuring out equations involving exponents

Data Analysis and Problem Solving

  • Ratios, proportions
  • Scatterplots, graphs
  • Probabilities and categorical data
  • Experimental interpretation
  • Median, median, mode, standard deviation

Other Topics

  • Coordinate Geometry – Lines and Slopes
  • Coordinate Geometry – Nonlinear Functions
  • Geometry – Circles
  • Geometry – Lines and Angles
  • Geometry – Solid geometry
  • Geometry – Triangles and Polygons
  • Trigonometry
  • Numbers that contain both real and imaginary components.

Algebra is the most common subject, accounting for more than half of all questions. You should therefore spend your time studying this subject.

The maximum 10% of questions will focus on geometry and trigonometry.

3 Tips for Preparing for the Subjects On The SAT

You will be more familiar with the SAT subjects if you know them. This will increase your chances of scoring well. These tips will ensure that your SAT prep is as successful as possible.

Answer high-quality practice questions

Although you now have a good understanding of the SAT subjects, you should still be familiar with the SAT questions. It's not enough to be able to identify the subjects on SAT Math. To maximize your score, you will need to be able to answer questions about each subject.

Practice is key to preparing for the SAT.

Take complete practice exams

You will want to complete at least one practice SAT, and ideally at most three to four. It will show you how long testing takes and how you can get distracted. After scoring your exam, you'll be able to gauge how you would do on the real SAT. You'll also be able to switch between subjects on the SAT test and see how you do it.

Make sure you take the SAT in realistic conditions. You should complete the test in one sitting, with no distractions, and timed. Official practice tests will be closest to the actual SAT. There are several official SAT test practice tests available that can be downloaded for free.

Focus on your weak areas

Make sure that you are focusing your study time on the areas where you need to grow the most. After every practice exam or set practice problems, look through them and find the areas where you have made most mistakes.

Try to be as precise as you possibly can. You may have the lowest score in SAT Math, but what questions are you failing to answer? For example, you might do well with algebra but struggle with geometry. Your knowledge of the subjects will help you identify areas that need improvement.

When you know which subjects you are best at, focus your attention on those areas. This will likely result in faster score improvement.

Conclusion: Which Subjects are on the SAT Test Test?

There are three main sections to the SAT. These tests will assess your comprehension of reading, writing, grammar and math. You should be familiar and comfortable with each section.

You will be better prepared to take the SAT if you know which subjects they cover. For your study, it is a good idea to practice with high-quality problems. Also, practice exams can be helpful. This will help pinpoint weak points and make your studying more efficient.
